"Fun on the Staff"

I painted "Fun on the Staff" in the summer of 1995. Thanks to the magic of art, I waved my favorite paintbrush and transformed four young gymnasts into musical notes. If you can read music and you check out the lines of the music staff where the eight hands are positioned, perhaps you can imagine the first seven notes of the theme from Haydn's "Surprise Symphony."

Oh? You say. Eight hands=seven notes? Yes, I answer. Check the musical symbol, the tie, between the last two hands. Eight=seven, if it has a tie!
