Every year our grape arbors produce more fruit than we can
use. So we call in our neighbors and friends to pick as much as they want.
The people who built our home not only had our Concord Grapes, but also
separate arbors for white, pink and purple grapes. To top off the harvest,
they would host end-of-season parties where friends stomped grapes, the
juice of which was bottled and stored in a wine cellar on the property.
Just like Lucy Arnez in "I Love Lucy", we tried stomping our Concords
in our boys' plastic wading pool. What a comedy of errors! When I slipped
and fell, my weight splashed all the liquid and seeds out onto the ground.
We had a great time hosing each other off, and the following year we had
a lawn full of tiny grape seedlings.
