Guilin China is famous for it's unusual mountainous terrain. In this watercolor I tried to take a surrealistic view of these pretty mountains and the Li River as it snakes it's way through the hills.
At almost any time of the day, the light from the sky remains diffused, bathing everything in a softness of muted colors. The whole area surrounding Guilin is so unusual and dramatic that the only way to capture the same feeling in a painting is using an approach akin to caricature.
