"Dancer with long sleeves" Sometimes when I dance, We had just returned from a month in the Orient, where my husband and I were treated to many musical and dance recitals. I was particularly impressed with the long, expressive sleeves (chang su) worn by many female Chinese dancers. One dancer's sleeves seemed to stretch longer and longer as she crossed in front of us, until her sleeves shimmered across the entire stage. In this painting, the "Chang Su" frames a calm and beautiful Chinese woman. Stories in Paint by Cinder LeDell © 2000 |
